How long will it take to process my business license? Approximately 2 to 3 weeks. It will be mailed to the address provided on your application.
If I sell at the Farmers Market do I require a business license? No - Individual vendors selling at the Farmers Market are not required to have a separate business license.
How will my license be renewed? We will send a courtesy renewal notice in May of each year to the address we have on file for your business. It is the responsibility of each licensee to know when their license expires. All City of Port Orchard business licenses are good from July 1st through June 30th of each year.
Do I need to also be licensed with the State of Washington? Yes - Every business in the State of Washington is required to be licensed with the Department of Revenue. You need to be licensed with the state prior to applying for your license with the City. You can apply with the State on line at www.dor.wa.gov if you have a debit or credit card. There will be a print option after completing the application on line. This print out will have your Unified Business Identifier (UBI) number on it and is needed for your City application. You may also call the Department of Revenue and request an application be mailed to you.
What happens if I do not get a business license? There are significant penalties to businesses operating without a license. They start at $500.00 per each 30 days in violation.
