The City of Port Orchard is preparing to update the City Parks Plan in 2011. Over the last few years the City of Port Orchard has grown and has expanded through the annexation process, nearly doubling in population and acreage. The City Parks Plan will be updated in 2011 to accommodate the changes that have occurred in Port Orchard, and to obtain a clear direction of what the citizens desire and expect from City parks and recreation. A Parks Plan Subcommittee will be working in liaison with the City Planning Department staff for providing ideas, information, and comments related to the 2011 Parks Plan update. The 2011 City Parks Plan Subcommittee will meet once per month for approximately four months after hours at City Hall. A draft document will be created from the input provided, and is scheduled to be produced for release in Summer 2011 for public review and to collect public comments and recommendations, with a public hearing conducted by the Planning Commission scheduled in the fall. The Planning Commission will be requested to forward a recommendation to the City Council in November regarding plan adoption, with City Council consideration expected in December. A City Parks survey will be available in March 2011 and linked to the City's website for soliciting public input and comments related to this City Parks Plan update. Interested citizens, unable to attend Subcommittee or Planning Commission meetings, can remain involved and stay apprised of the 2011 City Parks Plan development through this regularly updated website, and may request inclusion on an Interested Parties list.
