The Engineering Department provides engineering services to the City and management to the Public Works Department. The Public Works Director/City Engineer oversees the department, manages the engineering consultants, provides project management, and in-house designs. Responsibilities also include Facility management and Public Works operations.

The Assistant City Engineer is the Stormwater Program Manager, who oversees private development applications and subdivision development. Responsibilities also include other administrative engineering duties.

Engineering services include street designs, preparation of maintenance contracts, small building designs, and water/sewer improvements.

Stormwater management includes both physical improvements and the use of Best Management Practices (BMP’s) in the field. The City has adopted an equivalent ordinance, which is used by Kitsap County, to assure basin-wide consistency of the program. Stormwater permits are required prior to commencement of the project.

The Department also manages the FEMA Floodplain insurance program.
