The Port Orchard Police Department is responsible for protecting life and property; preserving the peace; preventing crime, maintaining positive community relations; apprehending and convicting criminal violators; recovering property; planning and regulating traffic and encouraging and developing community involvement and interaction. The Police Department consist of the following divisions:


Administration - Provides planning, develop policies, organize and direct the overall successful operation of the Police Department.

Investigation Division - Investigates crimes that occur within the city and follow through to successful conclusion; assist patrol with investigations and follow up when required; initiate criminal investigations and act as liaison with outside agencies.

Operations Division - Provides a constant visible patrol for the purpose of deterring crime and traffic violations; investigate and enforce criminal and traffic laws; arrest offenders; assist public; investigate accidents and expedite flow of traffic; and maintain positive community relations and education.

Support Division - Provides timely, efficient handling of complaints; processing reports; and maintaining property and evidence; parking enforcement, schedules and conduct training.

Special Programs - Programs within the Police Department that fulfill a community need. These programs currently consist of; School Resource Officer Program, Canine Program; Motorcycle Patrol; Marine Patrol; Bicycle Patrol; Crime Prevention; Emergency Management; Community Services; and Volunteers in Police Service.

Task Force Programs - Regional Narcotics Task Force; Regional Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, and Traffic Safety Task Force.
