The United States Census Bureau has begun Address Canvassing, ‘AdCan’, the operation that verifies the location of houses, apartments, shelters and other places where people could live or stay. Residents of Port Orchard have been hired to help verify these locations. These temporary staff are called “listers.”
Listers will attempt to knock on every door in the neighborhood they are canvassing and will always have an official government badge with photo ID. In addition, they will have an official bag and laptop with the 2020 Census logo.
A lister will knock on the door, identify himself or herself, and ask a few questions about the residence. Listers identify every place where people could live or stay. They compare what they see on the ground to the existing census address list and then verify, correct or add address and location information as needed. If the lister does not find anyone home, he or she will verify and update the address information by observation.
Should you have any questions or if you want to verify a lister, please contact the Los Angeles Regional Census Office at (213) 314-6500.
